Yesterday I made the very important and long overdue decision to chop off my rebellious hair, a decision that took hours of pouring over hairstyles on the internet and racking my photo archives to determine just the right style. As it turned out, all that obsessing was a total WASTE OF TIME because I settled on the EXACT SAME STYLE I went with the last time I drastically cut my hair. (Boyfriend, if you’re reading this don’t think for one second that I don’t know what you’re thinking: “Your hours of obsessing are always a waste of time!” You can cut out that line of thinking right now because if it weren’t for my hours of obsessing you wouldn’t be sitting on that glorious leather sofa. The sofa that we now have to sell on Craigslist. Ahem.)
I took in a copy of the following photo to show the hair stylist, so to ensure that she didn’t totally fuck it up.
Mini Korean Stylist: “Awh, that girl real pretty.”
HP: “Oh..uh..thank you. I like…you shoes.”
Mini Korean Stylist: “That girl your fren?” (Fren=friend.)
HP: “No..uh, that’s me.”
Mini Korean Stylist: “No! That not you! That not possibly you! Your face too wide to be you!”
HP: “Sure…uh…just make me pretty like her then, please.”
Look, lady. I realize I’m not nearly as tan, and maybe my cheeks are a bit puffier than this time last year, but I can assure you, that’s me. I’m not high. The last time I came here I was chastised for not yet being married and basically told I needed to do so promptly, and now you’re telling me I’m ugly? What the hell kind of establishment is this?
Whatever. She did a good job. I guess I can endure some mild torture.

Dude… Dude.
You’re one of the lucky ones. I never ever ever ever let Asian women cut my hair. I swear, ask anyone. If you go in and say, “two inches shorter,” you’ll come out six inches shorter.
Love the ‘do though.

You look great! I love it… immediately I want to cut mine too.
I went just past chin length in May and I loved it, but the boyfriend can’t deal if my hair won’t go up in a ponytail. (weird, i know)

you’re hot. short hair totally rocks. so much easier to take care of. xoxo

haha
you’re too funny
i’ve noticed that in many asian cultures, it is not required to censor one’s thoughts or “rude” to speak bluntly
so i try not to take it personally, but sometimes it still pinches my ego
hehe

Ok, I have to tell you a story that’s not mine but I feel at liberty to share anyway. It happened to hubby.
So we go to this Chinese place to get takeout, me, hubby, and hubby’s friend who happens to look a lot like him. The guy behind the counter stares long and hard at both of them, then suddenly exclaims, “Ohhh, you brudda!” (brudda=brother)
Hubby says, just to make life easier, “yes.”
But the guy wasn’t done. He looked again at hubby and friend, and then said, “ooohh, but you big. FAT!” he held out his arms nice and wide. And then he said it again (because I dunno, maybe when you want to say something is “very” something, you say the same word twice). And he ends up jumping up and down excitedly, saying “FATFAT!!” over and over again.
Hubby will not blog about this for some reason.

For the record, hubby’s NOT fat. (I know you’ve seen him and know this.) But maybe “FAT” is the closest thing to “larger” or “taller” that he can think of.
Pray to *god* he doesn’t start talking to sensitive teenage girls, triggering epidemic cases of anorexia in his little town!

Oh, and the thing I meant to say in the first place. You look fucking gorgeous!! I love the ‘do!! Your faithful internet readers are clamoring for a hair-care post, please!

Love the new hair!! The short hair looks awesome on you!
Don’t worry, I had my mini korean manicurist tell me I look way too young to be 26 and am never going to find a guy my age to date me. WHY THANK YOU. (my mom, meanwhile, was practically peeing herself with laughter over this so at least i had her support….)

You’re looking good, as always, despite the best attempts of North Korea to again sabotage our way of life.

Why is cutting the hair always such a hard decision for girls?
November 21, 2008 at 8:03 am |
Funny conversation and your hair do is gorgeous! It reminds me of Victoria Beckham!
You’ve totally inspired to get your same hair cut this weekend and top off the new look with my gorgeous pair of diamond earrings from http://www.idonowidont.com that my hubby bought me for my birthday, and it will stun him tomorrow night!
You have great style and thanks for inspiring me for a makeover!

Super cute, as always.
And Matt, are you kidding me?Girls can have such long hair that a drastic cut will make them look completely different. Deciding to cut off 6-8 inches of your hair is like deciding to get a new face. I really don’t understand why men can’t “get” these things.

Love the hair!! And the other picture totally looks like you, btw.

Adorable!!! I love the cut. I might have to go a little shorter myself next time.
