The American Film Institute held it’s 36th annual Lifetime Achievement Award tribute last night at the Kodak theater, which means that I had to dodge even more tourists than normal on my way home. Stars like Halle Berry and Warren Beatty were among those walking the red carpet. If you’re interested, the show will air on the USA Network at 9PM PST on June 25, 2008. Anyway, this isn’t too terribly interesting except for the fact that I met my newest hero last night on the walk home.
I was in a hurry to get my errands finished and make it home by at least the second quarter of the Laker’s playoff game, so it was a bit annoying to have to shuffle through throngs of tourists just to get down the street. I could have gone around the block, but I needed to make a stop at one of the stores on the way. The gay porn store and kinky sex shop. What? My best friend is getting married in 15 days! I need some sort of debaucherous and inappropriate paraphernalia with which to embarrass her! What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t show up to party with at least ONE glow in the dark strap on?! Come on!
Anyway, I digress. Big surprise. We were talking about my newest hero. Right.
Hero and I were both mumbling under our breath while trying to weave our way around all the people just *hoping* to catch a glimpse of something celebrity related. Hero says “This is ridiculous. I have to do something” Hero then very enthusiastically yells (and points emphatically down the street) “Oh my GOD, IT’S WILL SMITH!” Screams ensued. The tourists then all cleared the sidewalk, pressing themselves as close to the gates as possible, in hopes of glimpsing Will Smith. (Yes, they have to gate the tourists…)
Hero and I then walked down the sidewalk peacefully, chuckling all the live long way. Or something.
And by the way? Will Smith was totally at the Laker game, you suckers. I don’t know what you think you were looking at, but it was not Will Smith.
